Attack On President Jonathan's Re- Election Campaigners: Security Agents Ban Rally In Kaduna State

Despite a fervent claim by Nigerian
officials that there was no outbreak of violence at last weekend’s political rally in Kaduna, capital of Kaduna State, to support President Goodluck Jonathan's reelection ambition in 2015, police authorities in the state today announced a ban on the holding of any public political rally.

“This action by the police shows that their earlier denial of violence was false,” said a security source. He added: “We all witnessed it, and saw several youths who suffered knife injuries. Some of them are still
undergoing treatment in hospitals in Kaduna.”

A source at the Kaduna Government House confirmed the action of State Security Council after appraising the dicey security situation in the state.

“I can confirm that Kaduna Security
Council has approved a ban of all
[political] rallies in the state,” the
source said. The council has the
General Officer Commanding the 1st Division of the Nigerian Army, the heads of the State Security Service, police, Air Force and all the
paramilitary agencies as members, the source disclosed.

A police source in Kaduna also
revealed that the Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Olufemi Adenaike, was in the process of addressing reporters to confirm the action.
