US Capitol Update: lockdown lifted, suspect killed - ABC News

The U.S. Capitol has been placed on lockdown
after shots were fired outside the building. A female suspect has been killed, a source told ABC News.

A source told ABC News that initial reports were that someone tried to ram the gate at the White House, and then fled to Capitol Hill.

There was a short pursuit, and shots were fired. It's unclear if the suspect or officers fired the shots.

Authorities immediately locked down the Capitol and the White House.
An alert was sent to everyone in the Capitol to shelter in place and stay away from the windows around 2:25 p.m. ET.

Three senators told ABC News that they heard the gunfire. People standing outside the Supreme Court across the street from Congress
were hurried into the court building by officers.
"We heard shots. They told us to get behind a car," said U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH).
